From the Netherlands to England

After our visit to The Hague, I left on the commercial ferry "The Pride of Rotterdam" for Hull, England in order to attend the conference of the International Law Association. P&O Ferries provide daily overnight ferry services to Rotterdam that are worked by the twin ferries "Pride of Rotterdam" and "Pride of Hull," the largest ferries operating from the United Kingdom.

The city is a major port, and sits along the coast where the River Hull meets the North Sea. It has a long maritime history, first as a fishing and whaling centre, and now as a busy commercial port. However, the commercial docks are removed from the city centre, which has a lovely harbor for small boats and is quite beautiful.

The conference of the International Law Association was sponsored by the University of Hull, and held at the Wilberforce Institute for the study of Slavery and Emancipation (WISE) which is located in a listed Victorian building in the historic Old Town in Hull’s city centre and is next to Wilberforce House, William Wilberforce’s birthplace.

I enjoyed my time in Hull, which is a truly beautiful city.
