Paul Garro and City Year
Watch Paul Garro with some City Year community organizers!
City Year San Antonio serves high-need, low income students who are at risk of academic failure. In addition, to our school-based service, our corps members make a positive impact in communities throughout the city by completing transformational neighborhood improvement projects that transform communities.
There is an undeniable need for our services and as a City Year San Antonio corps member you will have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of San Antonio youth.
- San Antonio ranks number 62 out of 69 in the “America’s Most Literate Cities” study
- 92.2% of the students in the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) are economically disadvantaged
- 67.5% of students in SAISD are “at risk”
- The mobility rate in the schools served by City Year San Antonio is 41% compared with the state average of 22%
In addition to making an impact on the lives of children, as a corps member you will also lead fellow citizens in completing high-impact service projects and play a critical role in large-scale City Year events like:
Make a Difference Day;
Global Youth Service Day; and
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
You will bring together people from all walks of life - corporate volunteers, community leaders, government and local residents - to share the power of service in uniting diverse individuals and strengthening communities.
